YouTube - Margaret Price sings Dove sono (Le nozze di Figaro).
Marking the passing of the one of the great lyrics of the late 20th century - and far too soon.

The economy and the arts - and how to stay on top of them
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/culturemonster/2011/01/republican-study-group-proposes-cutting-arts-funds.html
Danger signs chronicled by the LA Times. Recommendation - set up a Google Alert for your particular area of the performing arts so you can keep tabs on it (heck - do it for the other subjects you want to keep tabs on). You'll get feeds from all over the globe. Come to think of it, create an alert for your name so you can keep close tabs on how you are being featured in the media.

Top 10 Composers: Which 20th-Century Masters Will Make the Cut? - NYTimes.com.
Interesting interactive entry on nytimes.com over the top 10 composers - there are several different articles: which 20th century composers would be considered among the giants of classical composition (this link), composers from Vienna, a chance to vote on the list - but be sure to catch the original top 10 list, a link to which is in the first main paragraph of the article in the above link. Many of the choices are composers that you will run into in your vocal studies, so it's worth your time to peruse the choices. And make some of your own....

Once More With Feeling: What is the Disconnect between Disciplines?
Once More With Feeling: What is the Disconnect between Disciplines?.
It's the biggest gripe I've got - why do folks think singing is "easy?" It ain't - not at a competitive level. 9 years to make a dancer - same for a singer. Or for any other knowledge area. Don't let it be you that walks in to anyone and says:
"I need to do this next week (or tomorrow - or this afternoon) - can you help me get ready?"
And don't let it happen to anyone you work with.
