The economy and the arts - and how to stay on top of them

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/culturemonster/2011/01/republican-study-group-proposes-cutting-arts-funds.html

Danger signs chronicled by the LA Times. Recommendation - set up a Google Alert for your particular area of the performing arts so you can keep tabs on it (heck - do it for the other subjects you want to keep tabs on). You'll get feeds from all over the globe. Come to think of it, create an alert for your name so you can keep close tabs on how you are being featured in the media.

Top 10 Composers: Which 20th-Century Masters Will Make the Cut? - NYTimes.com.

Once More With Feeling: What is the Disconnect between Disciplines?

Once More With Feeling: What is the Disconnect between Disciplines?.

It's the biggest gripe I've got - why do folks think singing is "easy?" It ain't - not at a competitive level. 9 years to make a dancer - same for a singer. Or for any other knowledge area. Don't let it be you that walks in to anyone and says:

"I need to do this next week (or tomorrow - or this afternoon) - can you help me get ready?"

And don't let it happen to anyone you work with.
